Adding filters to your email
You may find that your inbox can get swamped by emails from mailing lists or Google Classroom. You can easily set up filters so that these messages and others like it automatically skip your inbox and go into a folder. To do this:
Open one of the emails of the type you’d like to filter
When the email is open, click on the arrow next to the reply symbol (1) and choose ‘Filter messages like this’ (2)
If you’re filtering Google Classroom mails, go to the ‘From’ field and delete everything before ‘@classroom.google.com’. Otherwise, just leave the email address as it is.
Click ‘Create filter with this search’
Tick ‘Skip the Inbox’ (1) and ‘Apply the label’ (2). Then click ‘Choose label’ (3)
Choose ‘New label’
Give your label a name (1), for example, your group name or ‘Google Classroom’, and click ‘Create’ (2)
Tick ‘Also apply filter to matching conversations’ (1) and click ‘Create filter’ (2)
To find filtered emails in future, look at the left-hand column of your inbox and click on the relevant label.
